The federal government of Nigeria have said that six of the twelve super Tucanos are on the track to arrive Nigeria by mid July 2021.
In November 2018, the Sierra Nevada Corporation SNC was awarded a $329 million Foreign Sales Contract from the government of the United States to build twelve A-29s for the Nigerian Air Force.
Recall that Boko Haram and its splinter faction Islamic State of the West African Province ISWAP have continued to carry its deadly actions against civilians and
humanitarian workers in northeast Nigeria, and have continued to spread across the nation leaving the country's security deteriorated.
The armed turboprops are intended for use against Boko Haram and Islamic state militants.
The Senior Special Assistant to the president on media and publicity, Malam Garba Shehu has through his twitter handdle disclosed that six of the twelve super Tucanos are on the track to arrive Nigeria by mid July with the remaining shortly after that.
Shehu also disclosed that there are 14 Nigerian pilots currently training at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia.
According to federal government, the Super Tucanos came off the production line in Jacksonville Florida are now being equipped and flight tested.
"The Air Ground Integration School is the training hub on targeting and minimization of civilian casualties". Says Garba.
"At present, five Nigerian super Tucanos are at Moody AFB in Georgia for pilot and maintainer training the two released images of the six aircraft, which also will be flown to moody, in a Jungle Camouflage Scheme". Garba said.
"The painted Jungle Scheme NAF A-29 now moves on to mission modification at Moody Air Force Base ". Says SNC.
Following modification, between delivery, NAF pilots and maintenance personnel will further train in the aircraft.
Currently the construction to house the aircraft is onging.
