According to information, in a letter sent to the Ministerial Committee on Candidature, the Egyptian government stated that Nigeria's nomination of new candidate is not in conformity with the executive council decision" EX.CL./Dec.1090(XXXVI) of February 2020.
It said member states of African Union AU had been required to nominate candidates for the position of director general by November 30, 2019. Six months away while the request to substitute Yonov Frederick Agah was made on June 4, 2020.
Meanwhile, General Muhammadu Buhari on June 4, announced the withdrawal of Yonov Frederick, Nigeria's previous nominee for the position of DG to be replaced by Mrs Ngozi Okonjo Iweala.
While General Buhari did not give reason for that decision, note that Mrs Okonjo Iweala has a global stature as a former Managing Director Operations of the World Bank, Finance Expert, Economist and international development professional of more than 29 years experience.

Whereas official deadline for the closure of nominations for the election is July 8, 2020. One month away.
Egyptian government maintained that as far it was concern, the three candidates representing Benin Republic, Egypt and Nigeria had already obtained the endorsement of the Executive Council to contest for the position of WTO Director General.
The three candidates include Eloi Laourou of Republic of Benin, Abdulhameed Mamdouh of Arab Republic of Egypt and Mr Frederick Agah of Nigeria.
