Poor Education: SERAP Sues Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa ~Eberechy's Blog



The Socio Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) have ask the federal high court to compell Delta State Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa following the poor condition of educational system and facilities in the state.

 SERAP berate that tens of thousands of Nigerian children are being left behind thus jeopardizing their future.

"This children are being short changed and they deserved to know how much exactly has the governor spent between 2015 to date, on their education".

In the S/N FHC/L/CS/803/2019 Which was filed before a federal high court in Lagos on May 24, 2019. The refusal by the governor, UBEC and SUBEB to respond to SERAP's FOI requests can only be construed to mean denial of the information sought.

Meanwhile, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Are to be joined as defendants in the suit.

The case of little Success Adegor, a primary school pupil who was sent away from school because her parents could not afford the alleged illegal N900 school fees and the insuficient and poor quality education infrastructure of Okotie-Eboh primary school 1, Sapele. Are the evidence of educational deficit, SERAP said.

However, SERAP seek an order of the court for disclosure of details of budgetary allocations and actual spending by government between 2015 and 2019, inluding specific project carried out to improve access to free and quality primary education in the state, location of such project.

SERAP also seek order for disclosure of details of disbursement by the UBEC and SUBEB to the Delta State government and actual spending by the government on primary school education monitored, including projects carried out to improve access to free and quality primary education.
